Planning for Phase Two of the Center Street Improvements began in 2013 and construction documents were completed in early 2014. Teamed with The Wooten Company, engineers, AP&A planned two blocks of improvements including intersection roundabouts and locations for artwork and a 12′- tall granite fountain. In fall 2013 the City was awarded a $10 million TIGER grant, and the City added a third block to the plans. The design for the Phase 2 work differed from Phase 1 in that the wide center median was narrowed to allow space for head-in parking, which store owners favored. The completion of Phase 2 has stimulated renewed interest in downtown living and businesses.
