Who We Are
Regeneration by Design (RbD) was founded in April of 2021, but our history extends more than 25 years. Allison Platt & Associates started in 1993 in Baltimore, and the company relocated to North Carolina in 2007. Our specialties have remained constant over the years: downtown master plans, waterfronts, and construction documents for urban spaces and streetscapes. Allison Platt is the Managing Partner of the new company.
Our services extend beyond design: We understand the synergy between design and revitalization, stakeholder involvement, economic development, and placemaking to create community transformation. We regularly work with talented economic development specialists, illustrators, planners, and engineering professionals.
Our goals for the company include growing to cover all the specialties that landscape architecture embraces while maintaining the ties to allied professions with a continued focus on our specialties. Take a few moments to explore our past and current projects and contact us if we can be of service.
RbD is certified as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE-Woman-Owned); an Historically Underutilized Business (HUB), and a Small Professional Services Firm (SPSF), making us eligible to fulfill the minority requirement on public work. NCDOT has also certified RbD as qualified to design and prepare construction drawings for Multi-Use Paths and Streetscapes.
Urban Design & Master Planning
Whatever you call them (Master Plans, Strategic Plans, Urban Design Plans), this process and product is an essential step in organizing the community for revitalization. Our job is to create a strong vision and recommend the actions needed to organize the community for growth. Click here for a gallery of Urban Design and Master Planning work.
Enhanced waterfronts are an important driver of revitalization. For those communities beginning the redevelopment process there are often vacant or underutilized waterfront properties that can serve as a springboard for change. Places to walk, places to accommodate visiting boaters, locations to pause and enjoy the views, and nearby residential, restaurants, shops and events enliven waterfronts and spur growth. Streetscapes & Parks
For the past 20 years our firm has specialized in design and construction documents for downtown streetscapes and urban parks and open spaces for small to medium-size cities and towns. Projects include New Bern, Goldsboro, Wilson, Newton, and Washington, NC and Newport News, VA. Explore our current and past projects.
Regeneration by Design has built strong relationships with talented professionals who complement our strengths in landscape architecture, urban design and community consensus-building. This allows us to tailor our services to the exact needs of our clients in a cost-effective manner. In this time of digital communication, we can collaborate brilliantly without being in the same location. Allied professionals include engineering, economic development, and illustration/visioning.
